Best race experience? I had such a great year of racing this year. I don’t mean my times, in fact, I never did get a new PR. However, I have so many new friends that are runners now, and social racing is my new favorite thing. The Gigi’s Playhouse Super Hero Run was super fun because my friend and I dressed up and ran for another friend’s daughter. The Paul Skeffington 5-miler was my favorite as a runner. The Moonlight Chase was a fun evening race with friends. The Bix was my first “big” race with elite runners. The Autism Awareness 5K was special because Evan and I went together, I got a pretty good time, and it was right after the Boston Marathon thus very emotional. Clearly, I’m indecisive. Sorry. I just really cannot choose!
Best run? Well if I can’t pick a best race I clearly cannot pick a best run, but one that stands out in memory is trail running with my family at Rockwood this past fall. Nothing better than running with the whole gang! Then, every run I’ve done with friends. They are so much fun.
Best new piece of gear? I’ve already posted about how I love my minimal shoes, the New Balance Trail Minimus.
Best piece of running advice you received? Awhile ago Chris taught me to run down hills, and from the races I’ve done I can tell that most people don’t know how to do it, as I’m always passing people down hills. His advice was simple–stretch out your legs and let gravity pull you down. It works. I’ve gotten better at going fast down hills without feeling like I’m going to fall.
Most inspirational runner? All of the runners in Spirit of the Marathon. That movie chokes me up in several places.
If you could sum up your year in a couple of words, what would they be? Fun and Social. This year has really taught me how to have FUN with running.
There you go, my reflections of the year. Now let’s hear yours!
